Two Saturdays of College Football have already wrapped up but we’re just getting started as another full slate of games are coming up for week three. We have an angry mob waiting for coach Prime and his buffs in Fort Collins, and over in Madison, Wisconsin, the Badgers look to rein on the Tide’s parade. Rain or shine, there’s some good football on prime time this weekend. Let’s check out the games on deck:
4 Alabama vs. Wisconsin Noon on FOX – The Crimson Tide are coming off a ho-hum win over South Florida-again! Meanwhile, Wisconsin is only given up 14 points a game. If they can make the Tide one dimensional, it could be a fight in Madison.
16 LSU vs. South Carolina Noon on ABC – This is going to be a fun game. LSU has the talent, but they have not been impressive on both sides of the ball. Losing star back John Emery hurts this team, but they got guys that can carry the load. Guess who has looked impressive? The gamecocks! South Carolina Quarterback LaNorris Sellers has looked stellar, throwing accurate balls in the pocket and on the run, and he has a great supporting cast. If they can get the upset today in Columbia, they will give them some momentum before their clash with Ole Miss.
Memphis vs. Florida St. Noon on ESPN – UPSET ALERT! I know I’m speaking to the choir, but this game is a must win for Mike Norvell. His Seminoles are 0-2, and now they face Norvell’s former team, the Memphis Tigers who are 2-0. Novell’s Noles potentially could go 0-3 for the third time since he’s been their head coach (20 and 21) and if you think for one second the Tigers can’t win this game then you’re living in fantasy land.
24 Boston College vs. 6 Missouri 12:45 on SEC Network – This matchup is more stellar than it looks. These are two highly underrated football teams who are really well coached and can score at will. The Eagles Quarterback Thomas Castellanos has been stellar and his RPO ratio is off the charts. Meanwhile, Tiger Quarterback Brady Cook is just picking up where he left off last season, already compiling almost 500 yards passing and a 71.6 completion percentage. This will be a fun game to watch.
9 Oregon vs. Oregon St. 3:30 on FOX – The Civil War is played earlier than usual this year (and probably for the foreseeable future) but that won’t stop the Ducks and Beavers getting fired up for their annual rivalry. The Ducks were in a dog fight last Saturday against Boise St and won at the last play. Defense is what Dan Lanning is known for but they’re having a hard time stopping the run so far this season so look for the Beavers to establish the run early today in Corvalis.
Texas a&m vs. Florida 3:30 on ABC – Gator head coach Billy Napier is under considerable pressure this season to get over the hump. What hump you ask? The hump of mediocrity that hovers over Gainesville. This is a football program that is used to winning national championships, but they haven’t sniffed an SEC championship since 2008. There is a glimmer of hope, that hope is freshman DJ Lagway, Quarterback. I know it was Samford, but he looked impressive, throwing for 456 yards and three touchdowns. If Napier wants to rally his team and improve their chances, Lagway must get more playing time, especially against the aggies who play solid defense. Should be a good one in the swamp.
