Just let me watch football

Why is it every year, right before the season starts we have drama in College Football? It’s border line frightening because August is the month I start to get a little excited- the best sport on the planet is about to begin. Yet, some how, we tend to find some extracurricular activities going on behind the scenes. For example, last season it was the fiasco at Ole Miss with Hugh Freeze. You know, where he made calls to escorts/prostitutes while on recruiting trips? Yea, messed up and down right bush league. Now we have two issues: Urban Meyer lying to the media that he didn’t know about one of his assistant coaches abusing his wife and then D.J. Durkin and his staff’s intense workouts that lead to the death of a player.

The media is going crazy about both stories, for obvious reasons. However, it takes my delight and joy away from the build up to kickoff. I can’t get away from it either. From podcast to ESPN, it’s the talk of the town and it’s making me crazy. However, I have found a solution to my misery: YouTube!

Yes, YouTube has become a friend that sticks closer than a brother(no pun intended). You can watch hundreds of games from golden days up to last years national championship game. Best of all, there are so many different subscriptions that you can subscribe to a certain one and watch to your hearts content. For example, you like Oklahoma? No worries, there are many channels where you can watch Barry Switzer’s wishbone run up and down it’s nemesis Texas. Are you a USC trojan? Never fear, there are channels dedicated to the men of troy on youtube and you can watch Reggie Bush make his heisman run( didn’t he lose that trophy?). The possibilities are endless and the best part is that YouTube is free! All you need is an internet connection and a device to watch it.

The off-season drama will always happen, that’s just life. People make stupid choices and when you’re in the spotlight, it’s hard to hide your errors. And of course, cable and radio run with it to get their ratings and don’t care for john doe football fan. Thankfully, there is an escape for us lovers of the gridiron, and it’s only a click away.
